Important Measurements

What size range hood do you need? Read our helpful kitchen hood size guide for guidance on selecting the correct range hood dimensions.

Duct size

The minimum duct size for a range hood is 4”, which is ideal for kitchen vent hoods that are 400 CFM (cubic feet per minute) and under. At Pacific, all of our range hoods require a 6” or larger duct size due to our higher CFM ratings (550-1,200 CFM). A smaller duct size may decrease your kitchen range hood’s efficiency by restricting the airflow as it travels through your ductwork. Check the product page for each model for specific duct size requirements.

Under Cabinet Hoods

There are three key measurements for under cabinet range hood installation.

Under Cabinet WidthThe most common widths are 30”and 36”. Over the stove vents should be the same width as the cabinets above the range.

Under Cabinet Height: The recommended mount height from the cooktop to the hood bottom should be between 24” and 30”. You can use this information to determine how tall your range hood should be to connect with your ductwork.
It's crucial to install the hood at the proper mounting height. Hoods mounted too low could result in heat damage and fire hazards. Conversely, when hoods are mounted too high, they will be hard to reach and lose their performance and efficiency.

Under Cabinet Depth: This refers to the depth of the wall cabinets above your range. A standard cabinet depth is typically 12”, which is conducive for installing all Pacific under cabinet range hoods. These days, however, some companies are making wall cabinets 15” deep, which could pose a problem for the TruSteam series by covering the range hood’s water inlet. If you have 15” deep wall cabinets and want to install a TruSteam range hood, you will need to install a 2.5” deep metal box (30” and 36” width available) behind the hood to avoid covering the water inlet. Wall-Mounted Range Hood

Wall-Mounted Width: The most common widths are 30” and 36”. The range hood should be equal to or slightly larger than the range top.

Wall-Mounted Height: The recommended mount height from the range top to the hood bottom should be between 24” to 30”. You can use this information to determine how tall your range hood should be to connect with your ductwork.
It's crucial to install the hood at the proper mounting height. Hoods mounted too low could result in heat damage and fire hazards. Conversely, while hoods are mounted too high, they will be hard to reach and lose their performance and efficiency.
